The event group mounted a large front door that becomes a work surface. The complicated angled cut of the top created a handle and is integrated into a table surface. This cut also maintains the prismatic quality of each kit.
The plant kit team had a number of complicated and challenging door conditions that required some improvisation after the fact. The team ended up using a series of cabinet and piano hinges to provide exactly the right kind of openings.
The first wall to be completed was the art wall. The full bid plate construction of the top of the wall creates an interesting visual condition that makes the construction challenging. Along with the students we developed a method for cutting the pieces on the table saw allowing for more specific control over the angles. The mobile kits fit underneath the wall.
The arcade team made of rapid progress and the last week. The corrugated construction technique use for this kit allowed for the rapid construction. The group is now hanging, the doors which unfold to act as table surfaces.
Each of the kits was completely cut out on the CNC, labeled, and then arranged to make the construction and quicker and easier.
Students Shawn and Eric continue to progress quickly through the mobile tool kit. Its particularly challenging because of the angle cut doors which rests to harm the vertical supports and the images above.
Working closely with the students we developed a way to pattern the panels that will eventually become part of the event kit. This technique allowed the students to translate a 2D drawing into a three-dimensional drawing on the wood.
We used the toolkit to test the wheels that will use on all the mobile kits. It was important that the wheels were large enough to be roll down the street and out into the a vacant lots in the neighborhood. This required that they were of a specific diameter as well as little softer rubber wheels.
